Facts about Marae!
Marae was built in 2004 by Alloy Yachts of New Zealand. We are her fourth owner and she has made numerous crossings and passages prior to our ownership.
She is 108 feet long with a 26 foot beam and with her unique centerboard she draws 8 feet with the board up and 19 feet with the board fully extended. In addition, the rudder can be raised so that when retracted it also draws 8 feet and 12 feet with it fully extended.
She has a carbon fiber mast that reaches to 155 feet above the waterline – that’s a long ways up there!
She is also unique in her steering. Most boats of this size only provide for hydraulic steering; no feel of weather helm. BUT, Marae can be steered manually to get the full feel of the conditions and her responses.
Other things of note and special are the fact that she has both two diesel engines and two generators. This redundancy adds greatly to her, and of course, our, saefty.
